Joining Forces
By Brooke RiggioThanks, Matthew, for the great welcome, and your willingness to partner in creating the greatest possible iPhone app launcher.
In spite of many negative reactions, I was excited when Apple announced that iPhone apps would be web-based. As a web developer, it was thrilling to see my favorite technologies embraced for such an preeminent device. I started planning my app launcher right away. I have used a number of different launchers on my old Treo 650, so i had plenty of ideas on what it should do.
I wanted clean, easy to use icons that integrated with the native iPhone look and feel. I wanted database power for full user customization. I knew the app would have to be smart: not just interactive, but context aware. Easy groupings of apps, easy access to favorites, stat tracking and more all seemed so doable. (The unimaginative domain name i was planning on working under, appsort.com, now redirects here.)
Matthew, with his great CSS and graphics skills, had similar vision, so a partnership seemed natural to move things along. And things are moving! We are putting many key pieces of this puzzle together, in order to have a beautiful and powerful app ready for you.
So stay on the lookout for more hints on developing iPhone apps, as we hurdle the challenges off this terrific new platform!
